The Facial Cleanser

One of the best things to do before shaving is to prepare your face, you can do this by cleaning your face with an exfoliant and then draping a warm towel on your face this will care for your skin while you shave. When you do this type of preparation you remove the dirt, sweat and dead skin which will protect your skin from possible infection which may occur if you accidentally nick yourself while shaving.

In Addition, there are also some pre-shaving oils that will help prepare your skin for shaving or another choice may be a strong exfoliating cream.

Right Cream For The Right Shave

Choosing the right creams and oils for your face is just as important as the shave its self, so make sure to pick the right one for you. But here is a bit of a guide that might help your decision it is suggested that you select a shaving cream that is glycerin base and to stay away from products that contain menthol because they close your pores and stiffen the hairs of your beard. With those that have really tough beards or sensitive skin a pre-shave oil may be applied to further soften the beard and reduce razor drag.

Use The Razor Correctly

Some of the leading cause for ingrown hair and razor burns are lack of lubrication and dull blades. For a close and comfortable shave you have to choose the best blade for your skin, the two type of blades that are recommended are the straight razor and a double edge razor but both require patients and skill. Start your shave with the sideburns and cheeks first, use controlled strokes and shave in the direction of your hair growth. The general rule for shaving is to shave "down" on your face and "up" on your neck, make sure that you rinse your razor in hot water between strokes to remove clogged hair and cream. Also, if you are using a blade/cartridge type razor be aware that as soon as you feel it start to drag or pull on the hairs replace the blade or cartridge with a new one.

leave the chin, upper lip and any other areas you find difficult to shave until last. This way, the hairs have longer to soften under the lather.

What A Nice Shave

When you are finished, rinse your face with cold water to close the pores and wash away any residue left by the shave cream. Pat your face dry using a clean towel. Seal the deal with a quality aftershave balm. Avoid alcohol-based aftershaves as they are only going to dry and irritate your skin.
